In 2016, Palo Duro Hardwoods launched its exclusive Colorado Mountain Collection line of premium engineered wood flooring. We started out with six colors, and after a successful couple years, realized we needed to keep on climbing. Now, we’re excited to say we’ve added six more “peaks” to our mountain roster: Bierstadt, Blanca, Castle, Dotsero, Ouray, and Quandary.

Colorado Mountain Collection New Colors

Being based in Denver and serving the homes and businesses of the Rockies, we wanted to provide a product that reflected the beauty of the mountains rising above us to the west. From the cool grays of the highest mountains to the warm, rich browns of the forest, this expanded collection is truly inspired by nature. The neutral color palettes, depth and color variations enhance the beauty and characteristics of the wood itself. Many of the colors are made using “reactive” processes which, when combined with the wood’s tannins, color the boards from within.

So, what do you need to know about this line when it comes down to the install? As for its construction, CMC is engineered flooring that uses an ultra-stable, three-layer hardwood core. This core is lab-calibrated to perform better in extreme environments (like Colorado) because they minimize seasonal movement inherent to wood. This line also has a thick, European Oak wear layer that is equivalent to the sandable surface of solid unfinished hardwood flooring. Have kids in sports or a dog or two in the house? This wear layer can handle 'em. To top everything off (literally), manufacturers tend to use oil finishes on reactive-colored floors but we were able to use a urethane finish that is durable and easy to maintain. Finally, these floors typically perform extremely well over radiant heat. That means you’ll actually “feel” the heat coming right from the floors, perfect for cold Colorado winters.

Another stand-out feature of this collection is that 80% of the boards are 8’ long, creating a beautiful visual effect and open-feel for rooms. Considering that long lengths and wide planks are definitely the rage when it comes to wood flooring today, the Colorado Mountain Collection will give a trendy yet timeless look to whatever space its in.

So now you have best of all worlds- an engineered product designed specifically for this climate, a heavy wear layer that can handle energetic family lifestyles, and even more colors and designs that are sure to please any design preferences.
